What is the Coast Guard doing in Arizona?
The Coast Guard is responsible for all navigable waterways in the United States.
Unfortunately, the Coast Guard does not have the resources--human or material--to cover the rivers and lakes of Arizona.
Therefore the active duty Coast Guard relies on the Coast Guard Auxiliary to handle missions in Arizona.
The volunteers of Division 10 patrol the Salt River Lakes (Roosevelt, Apache (rarely), Canyon, and
Saguaro; the Verde River lakes (Pleasant and Bartlett),
and The Colorado River and its associated lakes (especially Powell).
What kind of "missions" do you do?
We have many missions to help further the goals of the United States of America and the U.S. Coast Guard.
Safety Patrols
Search and Rescue
Port and Marina Security
Marine Safety and Environmental Protection
Vessel Examinations
Marine Dealer Liaisons
Public Education (Boating Safety Courses)
Public Affairs
Legislative Outreach
...and several others.
